Artist Statement

After 20 years of meditation and philosophical writing, I discovered painting as a gateway to the ineffable. My work maps consciousness through gold tones, ink, and the organic order emerging from the chaos of mixed media.

Painting is my way of abiding with the essence that lies beyond words. In 2025, these years of contemplation began to take a definitive shape as a distinct visual language.

Biography

Narhana (born Byun Gunyoung in 1976) is a visual artist and author based in Seoul.
Working primarily with abstraction, his practice engages with structures and flows beneath surface reality.

An autodidact, Narhana has developed a distinctive visual language informed by long-term engagement with philosophy, meditation, and writing. Publications include Mandala Coloring Meditation (2015) and Spiral of Evolution (2023).

In 2025, Narhana received recognition including an Official Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize, an Award of Merit at the JoongAng Painting Exhibition, and an Honorable Mention at the Seoul International Art Prize Exhibition. The same year, they participated in several exhibitions, including a group show at Galerie 89 in Paris.

His practice is situated at the intersection of Eastern philosophical thought and Western abstract art.
